Vegan strawbsnana ‘nicecream’

This actually was meant to be a smoothie but the consistency was so creamy and thick, its the perfect and easiest recipe for a nicecream! (Banana icecream)
I fuelled myself with this refreshing, cold treat in the morning to get me through a pile of past paper revision, and boy was it the most satisfying HUGE cup of icecream i’v had.

When you know youre fuelling yourself with goodness a huge cup of this icecream will only benefit you and not cause you to feel any regret. The recipe is for 1 serving and covers 1 of your 5 fruits a day.

Ingredients:
1/4 frozen banana
1 cup strawberries (I didn’t but you can freeze half)
1/2 cup nut milk (of you choice – non vegans can also use skim milk)
6 ice cubes
Big Handful of spinach
Topping: flaked coconut and chopped almonds.

Place ingredients in the blender without the icecubes, blend. Add icecubes – blend. And pour into your favourate icecream bowl for FULL indulgence!!!

Indulgence doesnt quite capture the amazing taste of this sweet sweet treat!

I dont know what i have invented but im pretty sure ill be having t for desert for quite a while.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup beetroot juice
1 small frozen banana
2 teaspoons 100% raw cacao
Handful raw spinach
5-6 ice cubes
Some water may be needed if youre not using a high speed blender.

You can call it a smoothie, you can call it a chocolate bowl/mousse/ice cream… Whatever it is, you definitely will NOT get enough of it, and to actually be having your daily dose of veggies as well full of goodness? Ahh its just perfection in a bowl.

Mint smoothie

This wasn’t meant to be a pun, but this smoothie really is very “mint”

Because of its very strong flavour – and of course not forgetting its countless magical qualities as a remedy. Mint isna really good idea for an extra ingredient to your smoothies – it goes with nearly everything so just go ahead and “mint it up!”

Ingredients:
1/4 cup Celery
1/2 cup lettuce
1 cucumber
1/2 cup Strawberry
1/2 frozen banana
Ice cubes
Mint (handful)

Sprinkle some flaked coconut on top for that perfect thing to wake up to!

Maca powder – the ultimate breakfast smoothie

It’s always good to try new things, especially when you know they are good for you. I’v always been interested in trying the extra powders to my smoothies, i wanted something 100% natural and something that will boost my energy level rather than anything else.

The maca powder seemed like the perfect one from the endless choices there were at holland and barrets, it’s a low calorie powder that not only gives you extra vitamins and minerals but also adds a little bit of extra flavour to the smoothies.

Energy at my first day back at school after a long flight and an all-nighter the previous day? That’s exactly what it did, and though i am quite cautious and will make sure i have only a minimum amount of the powder occasionally as too much may have some bad symptoms and cause some imbalance, i cant wait to see the effect it will have on my skin and energy!

When trying new things, do your research well, read articles, reviews and make sure you get both perspectives from different people so you can be aware of exactly what you’re taking. Our bodies are precious and we must do everything to keep them in their ultimate best condition possible 🙂

Carrot-strophe

I was debating wether i should use that cheesy title and decided to embarrass myself in public and go for it – so excuse the pun!
Now – another day another smoothie its ‘carrot cake smoothie’ – it was so creamy and thick that i couldn’t resist enjoying it with a spoon instead of drinking it. I can have this day and night but the bad news – too much carrots increase the level of beta-carotene In your blood making your skin turn pale yellow, and although carrots have a mountain of benefits; you need to make sure that you don’t have a carrot overdose.

Ingredients:
1 orange
2 medium carrots
Handful chopped celery sticks
Handful of walnuts
Ice cubes
2 pitted dates

Pomegranate and banana smoothie

Finally going back to the routine of transforming my fruits and veggies into luscious smoothies i’v really been reminded of why i used to be obsessed about smoothies.

After an intense session at the gym all your body really needs is something to replace all that energy you lost, and something to cool you down and make you feel refreshed. I don’t know about you guys but i’v never come back from a jog or from the gym craving a deep fried chicken sandwich with chips and extra cheese. Our body knows what it wants and it makes a good point of trying to let us know exactly what that is, wether before or the response we get after a meal should make you get a big picture of what your body responds and doesnt respond well to.

Ingredients:
1 small banana
1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
1 cucumber
2 tablespoons low fat greek yogurt
Flaxseed

That is all! Adding some veggies to my smoothie has really been a great decision and if you don’t already i HIGHLY recommend you try to add more and more veggies as a base to your smoothies!

Green smoothie

Seeing as its winter and all, i have been avoiding having smoothies for breakfast, mainly because of waking up and needing something to warm me up!

But i really couldn’t go longer without a refreshing energizing smoothie, the only “energizing effect i can explain which i can get from smoothies and nothing else!

Ingredients:
1 cup raw baby Spinach
1 kiwi
1/2 small orange- juice
1 cup celery sticks
Water
1/2 tbsp honey
1/2 tbsp flaxseed

Place in blender, it doesn’t come easier and its soo good!

I had this before going to school and thought that i would be starving by the time i get home, but it kept me full and awake throughout the WHOLE day, no need for caffeine, no need for a snack! Smoothies just work magic!

Fruit and date smoothie

Its been a really long time since i’v enjoyed a luscious fresh smoothie, mainly because its winter but i really missed having that boost of energy you can get only from fruits and veggies so i decided to fight the cold and enjoy a smoothie.

Id forgotten how awake and energetic you get after just one glass of fruits, its like this glassfull of empowerment, followed by the best 1 hour at the gym i’d ever had. Smoothies are an awesome way to start your day!

Ingredients:
Strawberries
Pineapple
1/2 banana
Flaxseed
About 1/5 cup water
1 date

Blend and enjoy, the thickness of the smoothie makes it really tempting to just get a spoon and enjoy it like soup, so why not?

It’s also a good idea to add some veggies t your smoothie, some celery would have added a great extra touch to this smoothie i think, it also keeps you more full with just a few calories!

Berry smoothie dessert

Its been more than i can remember since i last made a juice smoothie to energize me throughout the day; waking up quite late and being in a rush to go out made it the perfect day to get back to my old habit that i used to love! Good old smoothies 🙂

This was. Less a “drinking” smoothie and more something i can enjoy with a spoon as a dessert in the afternoon or after dinner as it satisfies that sweet tooth but also fills me with energy and good vitamins!

Ingredients:
2tbsp yogurt (greek non-fat)
1 cup frozen blueberries and cranberries
1 teaspoon organic honey
Coconut flakes (as much as you fancy)

Add all ingredients in the machine that saved all our lives (the blender!!) and enjoy however you want , wether watered down with some milk/water to drink or with some granola to eat as a parfait or on its own like i did 🙂

Personally i loved the thickness and richness of it, i can even imagine keeping it in the freezer for about an hour to enjoy ad the perfffect frozen yogurt!!
