AUTMEAL – the perfect oatmeal for the season

26 Nov

Another one of those oatmeal posts have made their appearance. Especially with the new wintery/autumn season.

I present to you the cinnamon-tangerine oatmeal.

It’s that mixture of smells that combines the strong aroma of the herbs as well as the tangerine which makes you want to snuggle up and count the days down for christmas.

40g oats (i use a mixture of jumbo oats and barley)
1 grated carrot
Zest of tangerine
Tangerine (optional) for decoration.
3 walnuts chopped
3 chopped dates

Start by cooking your oats in water, and adding the carrots and orange zest and herbs. As water is absorbed, add the chopped dates and mix.

Pour in a bowl and top off with crushed walnuts and tangerine.

**instead of grating the tangerine zest; i finely chopped pieces, giving that extra chewiness just like candy. Exactly what you want to perfect your morning oatmeal.

1 egg white

Boil the oats till the water is evaporated and beat in the egg whites, add extra water if necessary. Bring to a boil, add cinnamon and mix.

The perfect healthy oat cookies!

11 Apr

IMG-20130407-WA000When everyone around you in school is having chocolate bars, buttery flapjacks and chocolate-croissants; me and my friends sat in a corner this morning indulging in these delicious and healthy cookies my friend baked!

I just love the fact that we really show that being healthy is part of our lifestyle, other people around us don’t really effect the way we eat, and even if it means bringing our own home-made cookies to school rather than buying the buttery fattening ones from school, then we will do it with pleasure!

50 g peanutbutter

300 g brown sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

400 g quick oats

1 tablespoon cinnamon

2 teaspoons baking soda

first add the peanut butter and sugar,

whisk in the eggs

finally add the oats, cinnamon, vanilla and baking soda.

add raisins if you want and place in similar-sized circles

put in oven for about 10 minuets on 180 degrees.

how oats became my best friend…

22 Oct

The first thing that comes to people’s heads whenever i say “oatmeal” is that disgusting soggy thing that people are forced to eat in bootcamp. There’s just this negative picture stuck in people’s head of oats, and i think, as soon as you stop that myth from blinding you; then you will love oatmeal as much as i do!

eating oatmeal, is like an art in its own. there’s so many things you can mix or do it’s just fun to experiment and come up with new ideas every day.

but first, why eat oatmeal?

1. full of fibre – fibre lowers cholesterol and can reduce heart disease by 50%, fibre also improves your immune system and quickly fight off bacteria.

2.help stabilize your blood sugar if you have it in the morning, and so lowers risk of diabetes s it slows down the digestion of starch.

3.gluten friendly.

4.contain vitamin E, iron, magnesium, zinc.

and now for the fun bit. how to eat oatmeal without wanting to spit it out?

1. make it with milk and add honey.

2.put it in oven for 10 minuets with a bit of honey and raisins, if you like to nibble on something crispy.

3.quaker oats mixed with 0%fat greek yogurt, you don’t even have to cook it, just mix it together and you have yourself an awesome breakfast!

4.greek yogurt, oats, and fruits. if you feel your taste buds need a bit more sweetness add some fruits to spice things up!

5.oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies.
