Sweet and sour apple munchies

24 Feb

Following my last post on smart snacking i thought it would be a good idea to give you a taste of snacks that really do check all those boxes.

Starting off with my uktimate favourate fruit: apples!!

Ironically, when i was younger and our mum used to chop us some apple and pear boats, i used to secretly swap all my apples with my sister’s pears, i didnt really like apples, they weren’t as juicy, sweet or ‘tasteful’ as other fruits. But now i can genuinely say- i am obbsessed!

I still agree with the fact that so many other fruits do have a stronger and sweeter flavour than apples but i think that’s what makes them special! The fact that they’re quite crunchy makes you feel as if you’re not having a fruit but a proper meal, it keeps you full and satisfied and does not have that addictive taste that makes you over-eat. Thats the problem with most snacks these days, especially salty-processed carbs, your mouth tells you to keep going for more.

To add even more benefits to the already nutrient dense fruit i usually tweak my little snack of “an apple a day” giving it a little more life.

Sprinkle some cinnamon.
Sprinkle some ginger powder
Squeeze some lemon.

And there you go!

Warm pear and pomegranate

19 Dec

I always enjoy fruits when they are cold, juicy and fresh but whenever it gets chilly and you want something warm and caramelized, its so tempting to reqch for that warm cake with some melted chocolate syrup, thats the time to reach for the fruit and say “no excuses” you can enjoy a winderful warmed and caramelized pear as a great desert which you can add to your 5-a-day.

All you need is 1 pear, pomegranate seeds and some dark chocolate (optional)

Boil the pears in some water (about an inch) until soft and then add to a pan and warm till slightly brown on low heat.
Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with some pomegranate seeds.
(Optional) melt some organic dark chocolate with no added sugar and drizzle on top for an even sweeter way to celebrate the cold christmas season.

Apple rocket bites

10 Oct

I’v been tryimg to get more nice green leafy veggies in my diet, and although for me begetables are not AS tempting as nice juicy fruits, they are so much healthier and you can literally have as much as you please because most veggies are so low in calorie and fulllllll of fibre!

So instead of a stereotypical salad i cut up some apple slices and filled them with plenty of rocket on top and some carrot rings!

It really is great finger food!!!

Fresh pomegranate juice. What are its benefits?

5 Oct

My mum came back from a trip to one of the small villages in cyprus bringing back with her this amazing fresh pomegranate juice.

With a glass of ice, i can probably say it was one of the nocest and freshest juices i’v had and it just made me feel sooo cleansed!

Good for the heart and blood vessels
Great source of antioxidants
Melts away artery blockage
Decreases blood pressure
Lowers cholesterol

The heart is one of the most important organs in the body and it is vital that we try our best to keep it in the best possible condition, pomegranates are the perfect food for the heart!

So if you have some pomegranates at home, blend some in a normal juice blender and you’ll get the juice of a lifetime 🙂

This smoothie is inspired by my favourate drink i get from cafe nero and so i decided to make a lovely refreshing smoothie and knowing exactly what went inside it!

1 large orange (squeezed)
1/4 cup raspberries
1 cup green tea
Ice cubes

First make your green tea and leave it in fridge to cool; squeeze your orange and add everything into a blender; pulse, and pour in a glass and enjoy!

Cottage cheese is probably the healthiest and leaat calorie-dense cheese i have come across, with only 100 calories per serving, it really is a perfect choice for all you cheese lovers!

The thing that amazes me the most about cottage cheese is its versatility, you can have it in a wrap or inside a sandwhich as a light lunch or with some fruit or honey as a sweet snack!

I had some cottage cheese with some chopped peaches and it really filled me up and was a great snack!

I’d love to hear even more lovely cottage cheese ideas 🙂

1 cup oats

1 apple – diced

1 apricot – diced

handful of raisins

three dates

1 tablespoon honey

Mix all the ingredients and place in oven for around 20 minuets.

This is the perfect way to try and eat more fruit if you’re not a big fan, my sister who NEVER EVER eats raw apples or apricots loved them so much.

they are chewy and sweet but full of plenty of ingredients that are all beneficial for our health, i think I’m going to be making more fruit bars, because they don’t even need any butter to hold them together and the fact that there’s plenty of fruit in them makes it that little bit more filling. It literally took me 5 minuets to make and 20 minuets in the oven so go make some NOW!

my fridge. Tips for healthy fridge.

29 Jun

I believe that your fridge is the main element to decide wether your healthy diet will work or not.

Basically, if you want to help yourself, you don’t want to go buy yourself a bunch of temptations hidden only a few steps away from you.

The first thing half of us do when we’re bored is take a little stroll to the fridge and open it hoping to find something to munch on, and sometimes – at least with me – i do it more than once hoping that by some sort of magic more stuff will appear when i open the fridge the second time.

I wanted to show you guys how my fridge looks like at the moment, it’s not really my fridge its mine and my families so i guess having your own fridge would be awesome but with my parents going on a short holiday i decided to pollute it with loads and loads of fruit 😀

have the fruits washed and in a bowl so you can easily get one and eat it, and never feel lazy to do it at the moment.

Put a few healthy snacks in bags so you will never go for an unhealthy chocolate bar.

have plenty of veggies because you never know what you can mix up creating a delicious salad.

It’s summer time, exams are over; which only means one thing: IT’S BEACH TIME!

The best way to get into that summer mood is to chill in the sun, read a book and enjoy a nice cold drink.

Now if you usually order this from a cafe, you never know how many evil bagfuls of sugar they have drowned our drinks in, so the best way is, to make your own!!

Fill your cup with crushed ice

Squeeze one orange

squeeze half or 1 lemon

Pour over the ice

Add some mint leaves

mix with your straw and add some more water.

It’s cold, it’s satisfying and it’s Low in calorie! IMG_9409

I made these and they were gone in a second I didn’t even have time to take a picture! soooo delicious!

MY SISTER LOVED THEM and that is saying something!! so, i finally reached my goal of making her love ONE of my healthy treats!

We had some figs in the fridge that were going quite bad and i didn’t want to waste them so i cut them in small pieces and placed them in the oven on 180 degrees for about 40 minuets!

There was no sugar, no honey, NOTHING! just the good old fresh figs, they came out crispy on the outside and caramelized, they were just an amazing snack and so sweet!
