Summer Camp!

30 Aug

The reason I haven’t posted this last week is because i have been away for 5 days up in the beautiful mountains of Cyprus with my church youth group on our annual youth camp!

Playing messy games spraying ketchup at each other’s faces, going to ‘rocky point’ a high peak in the mountains where you can see a mind-blowing view of the stars and having your friend tell you each of their names (wow!), and even trying to keep up with your rugby-player youth leader as we jogged up a mountain (even got my exercise in there)

Being away from internet, keeping our phones hidden away at the bottom of our bags and forgetting about those t.v shows that i usually sit and watch day and night gave us so much free time to just think; worship; and just praise the lord!

Having this “week off everyday life” far away from my hometown really made me realize how much time i, and so many others, waste doing things that will really not help us accomplish anything!

2 corinthians 4:18  says:

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Being far away from everything made me think it would be so easy to just get back home and change completely, start reading my bible everyday and have my devotions time just like we did up at camp.

But obviously, were human; and what we sometimes think sounds easy can be the hardest thing if put in action; and so just like i set myself goals in what i eat, just like i try to have self-control and discipline in my diet and exercise, being healthy in body is great but the most important thing is being healthy in spirit; this may be a surprise to some of my readers as i’v never posted any blogposts like this, but every once in a while i’m going to share with you what God has been teaching me.

This may not be what you usually read; you may not even believe in God, but i’d really appreciate some feedback, wether its a comment or a question or just something you’d like to share with me (

Summer is finally coming to an end, and the word ‘school’ is being used more and more often each day; i really am looking forward for this new year to start as i have so many things waiting for me this year and i can’t wait to share them all; wether its recipes; diet plans; exercise and just life in general!

25 Aug

The summer holidays are nearly coming to an end and i thought it was about time to stack up my healthy food cupboard with new and awesome ingredients!

I believe the best way to stop temptations is to AVOID temptations and the easiest way to do that is to STOP BUYING JUNK!

If you have a good stack of healthy snacks around the house; whenever you feel like eating you can find something good for you to nibble on.

Here’s what i bought:

A good selection of nuts (UNROASTED AND UNSALTED)

Rye crackers

Muesli from holland and barret

organic quinoa (holland and barret)

selection of dried fruits

healthy bars

unsweetened dark chocolate

coconut flakes

I think its a good selection of things that you can both have as a snack on their own but also turn into a recipe making bars or healthy cookies with 🙂

First time at surgery

19 Aug

This is one of those posts that has nothing to do with health, but ironically it actually does as i got the opportunity to attend surgeries for a week at a hospital!

I’m hoping to study medicine and this was something i’v always wanted to see in real life; and apart from EVERYONE thinking i was going to faint from the first second I DIDNT! In fact, i loved it and it’s such a relief to know that i can honestly say i want to do medicine and let’s just hope that it’s for me 🙂

After having this experience i realized how important it is for any teenagers like me reading this to actually go out and find some experience anywhere of something you think you want to do for the rest of your life, it will really give you great perspective, you might find out that specific job is not for you or you might end up loving it even more than you do; like me! and personally it really made me so much more motivated to work hard and get to my goal!

So what i did for a whole week at surgeries that I’m probably too underaged to see on t.v?

Shadowing doctors is pretty fun; they were all extremely helpful explaining all the steps they were taking, the medicine they were using and the different effects and risks it has on the body.

Concerning my blog and healthy eating, i observed a few tummy tucks and lyposuctions and it really made me understand that being healthy and fit is so vital and worth every ounce of work! Seeing the fat cells in real life is quite vile and i would have loved to see the difference between someone with a lot of body fat and someone with a lot of muscle but unfortunately i didn’t get the chance.

All in all; the human body is something Out of our imagination, you really can’t understand until you see whats inside how complicated our anatomy is; its just amazing! 1157687_10201244221720346_241019595_n

Tomato, Basil and mozzarella omelet

17 Aug

omelet’s are great because you can be as versatile as you want and satisfy your taste buds with whatever they are craving, wether it is something sweet, savory, spicy or mild.

There was a chunk of fresh, white mozzarella sitting in the fridge and it was to tempting to say no to, so i decided to make a mozzarella omelet, rather than having a sandwich or pasta or pizza this is a much healthier way to enjoy your favorite cheese every once in a while 😀

15 MINUET: easy and healthy chinese chicken and veggies

15 Aug

The perfect healthy stir-fry.

Whole wheat pasta

Plenty of your favorite vegetables (i used carrots, peppers, corn, and some frozen mixture of green beans and peas)

2 chicken breasts cut in thin strips

soya sauce (2 tablespoons)

cayenne pepper

black pepper

Use olive oil spray to spray your pan and add the chicken strips till they are cooked, then add in the onions and the vegetables, keep mixing until everything is cooked and add the cayenne and black pepper and soya sauce.

In a separate pan boil the pasta, after it is boiled add to the chicken and vegetables.

I hope you enjoy it as much as me and my friend did, its the perfect dish to cook with your friends, family or kids because its easy and you can give each person to do different jobs like grate the carrots or cut the chicken and it’s also a perfect way to get as many veggies as possible into your diet as well as the chicken which is a great source of protein!

12 Aug

1 cup oats

1 apple – diced

1 apricot – diced

handful of raisins

three dates

1 tablespoon honey

Mix all the ingredients and place in oven for around 20 minuets.

This is the perfect way to try and eat more fruit if you’re not a big fan, my sister who NEVER EVER eats raw apples or apricots loved them so much.

they are chewy and sweet but full of plenty of ingredients that are all beneficial for our health, i think I’m going to be making more fruit bars, because they don’t even need any butter to hold them together and the fact that there’s plenty of fruit in them makes it that little bit more filling. It literally took me 5 minuets to make and 20 minuets in the oven so go make some NOW!

Healthy wrap ideas!

11 Aug

The reason i love wraps is because you can be as creative as you want, you can use wraps to get in as many veggies as you possibly can in your diet, and they are much lighter than sandwiches as the tortilla is really thin, while still getting the satisfaction of ‘bread’

so here’s a few ideas for some delicious and healthy wraps that i made:

Chicken and peppers with fresh basil, cayenne pepper and yogurt!

Anari cheese and tomato. (SIMPLE BUT SOOO DELICIOUS!)

Salmon and spinach wrap

6 Aug

The thing i loved about these tortilla is that they are so easy to make, and although i thought making my own tortilla from SCRATCH was going to be a hassle, and i’d have to face my mum after turning the whole kitchen upside down, it turned out to be surprisingly simple and hardly anything got messy, my mum was even happy to make some more again 🙂

So i used normal all-purpose flour but I’m sure you can use wheat flour as well to make it even healthier,

1 cup flour

2 cups spinach cooked slightly in water)

3 tablespoons of water (use water from spinach)

after cooking the spinach for a few minuets and it goes a little soft, add it to the flour, you can season with salt and pepper i also added cayenne pepper.

when making the tortillas add more flour on the surface and if it needs any extra.

Spray a pan with a little bit of olive oil and on medium heat place each thin tortilla for a few minuets on each side!

Having these in the fridge was so helpful, whenever you want a healthy-light lunch, you can fill it up with so many veggies, chicken and anything you can think of to make a nice healthy wrap 🙂

i also made mine quite small in size so that when i make the wraps it won’t add up to be too many calories and make me bloated. IMG_0053

Chocolate and Carob SINLESS cookies!

3 Aug

These little bad boys are something i will DEFINITELY bake again, they were so easy, just need one bowl to mix everything together and all you have to do is just pop them in the oven and you are DONE!

3 cups quaker oats

1 cup raisins

2 tablespoons carob

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

handful of dried coconut flakes

3 tablespoons milk

2 tablespoons natural fruit sugar

just mix it all together, place in oven for 15 minuets on 180 degrees.

They’re the perfect thing when you’re craving something chocolaty, and a chewy and sweet 🙂

Healthy and delicious Spinach tortilla Salmon wraps

3 Aug

These are my absolute favorite healthy meal i have ever done, i think I’m going to print this picture and stick it on my wall…or maybe not.

I had something similar while i was on holiday and really wanted to re-create it adding my own special features and most importantly making it as easy as possible so that literally anyone can do it at home!

I used spinach tortillas, they taste DELISH, and they are healthier, these were homemade and the recipe will be in my next post 🙂

The wrap:

Smoked Salmon

one tablespoon light philadelphia cheese
