my fridge. Tips for healthy fridge.

29 Jun

I believe that your fridge is the main element to decide wether your healthy diet will work or not.

Basically, if you want to help yourself, you don’t want to go buy yourself a bunch of temptations hidden only a few steps away from you.

The first thing half of us do when we’re bored is take a little stroll to the fridge and open it hoping to find something to munch on, and sometimes – at least with me – i do it more than once hoping that by some sort of magic more stuff will appear when i open the fridge the second time.

I wanted to show you guys how my fridge looks like at the moment, it’s not really my fridge its mine and my families so i guess having your own fridge would be awesome but with my parents going on a short holiday i decided to pollute it with loads and loads of fruit 😀

TIPS:

have the fruits washed and in a bowl so you can easily get one and eat it, and never feel lazy to do it at the moment.

Put a few healthy snacks in bags so you will never go for an unhealthy chocolate bar.

have plenty of veggies because you never know what you can mix up creating a delicious salad.

FRUIT SUMMER CHILLER!

25 Jun

It’s summer time, exams are over; which only means one thing: IT’S BEACH TIME!

The best way to get into that summer mood is to chill in the sun, read a book and enjoy a nice cold drink.

Now if you usually order this from a cafe, you never know how many evil bagfuls of sugar they have drowned our drinks in, so the best way is, to make your own!!

Fill your cup with crushed ice

Squeeze one orange

squeeze half or 1 lemon

Pour over the ice

Add some mint leaves

mix with your straw and add some more water.

It’s cold, it’s satisfying and it’s Low in calorie! IMG_9409

Chicken Breast with Mashed carrots

23 Jun

This was absolutely amazing!

Full of vegetables and protein and so low in calorie!

The thing i love about having meals that are full of veggies is that you can help yourself AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE and you don’t even have to feel bad!

The carrot mash was something i wanted to try to replace mashed potatoes, its simply boiled carrots and then mashed, with no added butter. They taste absolutely amazing, even better than mashed potatoes if i dare say! All of you have to try them next time you have your sunday roast meal! you can season with some black and cayenne pepper!

cottage cheese ideas

21 Jun

I was never really a big fan of cottage cheese, not because I didn’t like the taste, but simply because we never buy it at home and i never thought to go out of my way to get some.

But i finally decided that i MUST try it, after reading so many good things about it, and so, here’s a few ideas on how you can have your cottage cheese!

I love the fact that it’s quite thick, sort of creamy, so it keeps you full really easily and i always have a maximum of 2 tablespoons without feeling the need to have anymore.

frozen kiwi – froyo!

19 Jun

The best way to treat yourself in the summer is to have ANY form of frozen fruit!

So, i started experimenting and this was really a refreshing, finger-licking, ice-cream substituting snack. And its under 150 calories!!!

1 or 2 tablespoons of low-fat greek yogurt. (Put this in the base of your bowl)

1 kiwi blended with mint and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and about 1/6 cup of water. (place the mixture on top of your yogurt and leave in the fridge for about one hour)

I actually was really surprised because the kiwi mixture on the top didn’t become frozen completely like ice cubes, it had a great creamy texture especially with the yogurt underneath!

If you’re trying to cut down on carbs but still fancy having those amazing chicken sandwiches and rolls this is the perfect dish for you!

Boiled chicken breast

Carrots

Cucumber

Red pepper

Basil leaves

Lettuce leaves

optional:

You can add some yogurt on each lettuce leaf or some low fat mayo, but i felt like it didn’t need anything extra, it’s simplicity was what made it taste AWESOME!

This is also great for mini parties or picnics especially when the weather is quite cold, they’re so easy and you can even enjoy making them with the WHOLE family and get creative with the different vegetables you can add in each roll! 🙂

BAKED FIGS

15 Jun

I made these and they were gone in a second I didn’t even have time to take a picture! soooo delicious!

MY SISTER LOVED THEM and that is saying something!! so, i finally reached my goal of making her love ONE of my healthy treats!

We had some figs in the fridge that were going quite bad and i didn’t want to waste them so i cut them in small pieces and placed them in the oven on 180 degrees for about 40 minuets!

There was no sugar, no honey, NOTHING! just the good old fresh figs, they came out crispy on the outside and caramelized, they were just an amazing snack and so sweet!

NO FLOUR, NO BUTTER PIZZA!

13 Jun

IMG_9380

I finally did it, i’v been wanting to do this for so long and never for some reason never did until now. I was really worried that the “dough” wouldn’t turn out good and it wouldn’t be something i can actually call a proper pizza, but i literally noticed no difference, this tasted even better than pizza because of the flavor that the cauliflower adds.

FOR CRUST:

1 cup cauliflower

2 eggs

–> put the cauliflower in a food processor and pulse until becomes powdered. Whisk in the 2 eggs, you can use only 1 yolk for lower calorie and fat. if you feel like it needs to be a little more sticky add a little bit of milk and open up on a baking tray which is sprayed with a little bit of olive oil or sandpaper.

TOPPINGS:

fresh tomato sauce

chicken (fried with olive oil cooking spray and cayenne pepper)

fresh peppers

low fat edam cheese (only a hint)

you can add more stuff if you want and just get creative.

Place in oven for 15-20 minuets.

HEALTHY PANCAKES FOR BREAKFAST? yes please!

11 Jun

IMG_9379 IMG_9378

Half the reason you enjoy pancakes is because of the spread and so, we can’t fully call it a pancake if it does’t come with either CHOCOLATE, or BUTTER, or SOMETHING SWEET.

and so, that’s exactly what we can STILL have and not feel bad about it.

PANCAKE:

1 egg

1 tablespoon milk

–> whisk the egg and milk together and put in a skillet on low-medium heat.

OPTIONAL: you can add a mashed banana to it, I didn’t and instead sprinkled a handful of raisins, it really didn’t need the bananas to sweeten it more, they were perfect!

SPREAD:

peanutbutter

Guys, this is actually delicious, and will not deprive you from anything, so, hope you enjoy it 🙂

It’s also a perfect excuse to have more eggs, especially for kids who love the idea of pancakes and hate the idea of eggs. Great cheeky way to trick them 😉

Low fat mushroom and herb pasta

9 Jun

IMG_9373

INGREDIENTS: (1 serving)

whole wheat pasta

mushrooms (the more the merrier)

1 garlic clove

handful of parsley

a few basil leaves

1 small onion

1 tablespoon olive oil

juice of one lemon

TO SEASON:

black pepper

cayenne pepper

nutmeg

Put one tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and add the diced onions with half the mushrooms and garlic.

Boil your pasta.

When the pasta is boiled add it to the onions and sprinkle some herbs.

Fill a saucepan with a little bit of water and heat with the other half of the mushrooms, this will give it a different consistency, add some garlic and parsley.

Pour the pasta onto a plate and add the separate mushrooms on top. You’ll have two different consistencies of mushroom therefore giving the dish a bit of ‘personality’

Optional: sprinkle some parmesan cheese on top!
